High-quality A/B grade American Maple MDF panel measuring 300mm x 200mm. Ideal for structural projects requiring a high-quality appearance and finish on both the topside and panelling. Suitable for laser cutting.
This MDF panel is veneered on both faces of the sheet: A grade veneer on the front and B grade on the reverse.
Please note:As wood is a natural product, there is often a crook or bow to the sheet. The natural twist might be in excess of 10mm (see below - Tolerances and Caution) .A wood veneer is not like an artificial surface such as melamine or a laminate. It is cut from the log and therefore has its own unique grain, texture, and colour.
A Grade Veneer is a very high-quality grading (typically the best you will see). The surface of the material will be consistent in appearance with no large variations in colour. Small pin knots are allowed and these would typically be only a few mm in diameter. This grade veneer is on the topside of this MDF sheet.
The B Grade Veneer underside shows the natural look of the veneer. There will be changes in colour that show the grain pattern. Sound, smooth knots are allowed and these will typically be under 15mm to 35mm in diameter (depending on the countries grading rules). The surface should normally be free from open knots and plugs. The material should be suitable for paint/stain or a lacquered finish.
There are two different cuts that can be used in veneer production:
'Quarter Cut' are cut at 90 degrees, producing the effect of a straight grain.'Crown Cut' are sliced through the log, producing 'Crowns' and adding more character to the finish (as used on this product). This product conforms to E1 (low) formaldehyde levels and is often described as 'Laser Grade' MDF but there is no official classification for this. We believe that E1 conforming MDF is the safest and best MDF for using in a laser cutter.

This extruded 3mm Silver Mirrored Acrylic Sheet from Perspex measures 400mm x 300mm. Mirror acrylic sheets are extruded clear sheets with a high quality mirror coating applied to one face.
They make an excellent alternative to glass mirrors. Shatter proof, marr-resistant and 17x stronger than glass, they can be used indoors for decoration or outdoors in the garden.
As acrylic mirrors are more flexible than glass they must be fixed to a flat wall/surface. If you are fitting it to a wall which is not flat, it is best to fit it first to something rigid such as a piece of MDF.
Features:
Mirror finish.
Shatter proof.
Very low light transmission.
Easily laser cut, drilled and thermoformed.
Applications:Mirror acrylic sheets have many applications such as display, point of sale, artistic and architectural installation, and of course replacement mirrors.
Working with acrylic acrylic sheets:Acrylic is a versatile material that can be cut, drilled, laser cut and thermoformed. Note when laser cutting place the rear side of the sheet to the top, so the laser is not bouncing off the reflective surface.
Acrylic is a thermoplastic which means that when it is heated above 140-180°C it becomes flexible. This allows the material to be formed into the required shape or bent. Once the material cools below 85°C it becomes rigid again.
Acrylic sheets are often shaped using a CNC router or laser cutter. The edge of laser cut acrylic has a pleasing polished look. If you look carefully at the edge of a piece of laser cut acrylic you can often see slight vertical lines that are caused by the pulses a laser uses when cutting.
If you want to get a perfectly smooth finish on the edge of piece of machined acrylic a polishing technique can be used. Typical polishing techniques include diamond polishing and flame polishing.
It also possible to etch the surface of a acrylic sheet using a laser cutter. This can produce some very pleasing visual effects. The acrylic sheets have a protective film on both faces. If you are etching the material then this should be removed from the surface that is to be etched. If you are just laser cutting then this film can be left in place (if you wish) as it does not create any harmful gases when it is laser cut (unlike PVC).
More detailed information and resources on working with acrylic can be found in our resource section.

These high quality and highly versatile 1mm Cork sheets, measuring 600mm x 400mm, are one of the most Eco-friendly raw materials on the planet and they also offer a wide range of Design and Technology/Making applications. This material is suitable for laser cutting and laser engraving and as such, it can be cut into intricate shapes very easily and then laser decorated.
Cork has so many things going for it that it is a must for any making environment. Cork is a waterproof material and is also surprisingly durable. It has good elastic and compression properties and excellent thermal, acoustic and anti-vibration resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of uses.
As well as the obvious cork boards, some other possible uses include; coasters, mouse mats, heat/sound insulation, to decouple a project from a work surface to inhibit the transference of vibration, as a covering to improve the tactile nature of a product, gaskets, a protective layer or bumper, business card, and the list goes on and on.
Cork is considered a slow combustion material in that it will burn if subjected to a persistent ignition source, but it will then burn very slowly and without a flame so it is unlikely to spread. When it does burn, it does so without releasing any toxic fumes.
If you wanted to plan a lesson on raw material sustainability then there is NO other material that is better suited to serving as a positive example. The Cork industry is regarded as being very environmentally friendly as the tree that the bark comes from continues to grow and thrive after the bark is removed. Cork is also 100% recyclable, AND, can be used as an alternative to leather. Not only is cork the best material for a 'cork' for bottles, it also has by far the smallest carbon footprint when compared to any other type of bottle stopper material.
Note:As cork is supplied rolled up it will arrive bowed, if using on a laser cutter these sheets should be strapped/taped to the laser bed before cutting. If using magnets to hold the material flat, ensure that they are not in the path of the laser.
Features:
Cork is highly versatile.
It is probably the most sustainable raw material available for making.
Cork is water proof.
It is suitable for laser cutting and laser engraving.
It also has excellent thermal, acoustic, and vibration resistance making it a good insulator.

This high quality A grade Ash Veneer Plywood Sheet (laserply) with a Chinese poplar underside and core is ideal for structural projects requiring a high-quality appearance and finish on the topside and panelling.
Knots or resin within the material can cause scorch marks when used on a laser cutter. These can usually be removed with fine grade wet and dry sandpaper.
Please note:
As wood is a natural product, there is often a crook or bow to the sheet. The natural twist might be in excess of 25mm (see below - Tolerances and Caution).
This product is most suitable for applications where a high quality outside surface is needed where visual aspects on the underside are not critical.
This is a 'Crown Cut' veneer with A grade topside quality.
A wood veneer is not like an artificial surface such as melamine or a laminate. It is cut from the log and therefore has it’s own unique grain, texture, and colour.
There are two different cuts that can be used in veneer production:
'Quarter Cut' are cut at 90 degrees, producing the effect of a straight grain.'Crown Cut' are sliced through the log, producing 'Crowns'. This adds more character to the overall finish (as used in this product).Features:

Description
This is a high quality 1.5mm Oak Veneered Okoume core Plywood sheet (laserply) which is suitable for a wide range of applications and is suitable for laser cutting. Due to it's Okoume core, it is lighter and more flexible than comparable products.
These thinner plywoods are used in specialist applications and tend to have a slightly higher quality feel. The surface of the material is sanded to a smoother finish than that of most plywoods.
Okoume peels and slices easily and evenly, and this combines with its good acceptance of glue to give it wide use as veneer and being processed into plywood.
Okoume is very soft and has a very low density and when processed into plywood it makes the combined plywood layers more flexible and lightweight. When flexed, Okoume core plywoods will flex without cracking and won't lose shape like a veneer can when flexed.
The glue used in the core is Melamine. EN 314 cl. 2 which maintains its integrity in humid conditions and is less influenced by moisture percentage changes.
Note:
As wood is a natural product there is often a bow or crook to plywood and in some cases a twist. We have measured curvature of as much as a 25mm rise between the flat centre of the plywood and the corner, therefore if using on a laser cutter these sheets should be strapped/taped to the laser bed before cutting.
All of our plywoods, bar this one, use EN 314 cl. 1 bonding glue, which is classified as for indoor use. These 1.5mm Oak Veneered Okoume core Plywood sheets use EN 314 cl. 2 bonding glue which makes the plywood more resistant to moisture. Care should be taken when laser cutting as EN 314 cl. 2 is more easily scorched than EN 314 cl. 1.
Features:
Oak veneered plywood sheets (laserply) suitable for laser cutting.
High-quality material with a smoother surface than typical plywood.
Exterior grade glue.
More lightweight and flexible than standard plywood.
