The littleBits Bluetooth Low Energy Bit is the easiest way to control your inventions wirelessly, from any smart device like a phone or tablet. All you need is the littleBits Invent app and this Bit to move motors on wireless vehicles, or trigger buzzers for pranks. You can also use your circuit to control functions on your device, like triggering the camera to take a picture.
To use the Bluetooth Low Energy Bit, you first need to connect it to your smart device (smartphone, tablet) through the littleBits Gizmos & Gadgets, 2nd Edition app. Check your device’s compatibility at littleBits.com/app. The antenna enables you to send and receive signals between the BLE Bit and your smart device, up to a distance of about 80ft (25m) indoors. Instructions for connecting your Bit with your device can be found within the "help" section of the app, as well as on our website. By using the BLE Bit to control your smart device, you can take remote readings of the signals going into your BLE Bit with on-screen readouts. Or you can use signals from the BLE Bit to control the camera on your smart device, letting you take photos or videos remotely. Alternatively, you can use your smart device to contro your BLE Bit. For example. you can send signals to your BLE Bit with on-screen buttons, sliders and other controls. Or control your circuits movement with the accelerometer and gyroscope in your smart device. The BLE Bit also has the ability to “remember” the last command you sent to it from your smart device. For example, if you set the SLIDER control to the middle and exit out of the control screen or the Gizmos & Gadgets, 2nd Edition app entirely, the output should continue to receive a “50%” signal. This is useful if you want to keep your invention running while you’re doing other things on your smart device.

littleBits is the New York-based hardware startup that is on a mission to Democratize Hardware by empowering everyone to Create Inventions, large and small, with a platform of easy-to-use Electronic Building Blocks. The company’s innovative building blocks snap together with magnets to allow anyone to build, invent, and prototype with electronics independent of age, gender and technical background – no soldering, wiring, or programming required. littleBits breaks down powerful technology – from music with the littleBits Synth Kit, to the Internet of Things with the Smart Home Kit – and makes the technology accessible and easy to understand. The company was founded in 2011 by MIT graduate, TED Senior Fellow and cofounder of the Open Hardware Summit, Ayah Bdeir, and has grown to be a global leader in hardware.
